Playing again for dancers/shibari performers Mar and at Shien Lee’s Red Pavilion in Brooklyn. I’ll be accompanied by percussionist Natalie North. Wear something with cut outs cause you’re gonna get flushed.
Witness the deliberate movements of rope artists Mar Like The Sea and Sam Sweet, each stroke echoing the crescendos and swells of chamber folk trio THISTLE, creating a dialogue between body and sound. The live music—original compositions of harpist and singer Thistle Jemison—serves as both a backdrop and a collaborator, amplifying the emotional intensity of the performance.
The lyrics are inspired by fairytales, poetry, and literature, while the music draws influence from the folk, jazz, western classical, and South Indian classical genres. Chamber Music America called Thistle's latest, Edgar Allan Poe-inspired album "Beautiful, hypnotic, unique."
Shibari & Strings is both visually and aurally immersive, offering the audience a space to reflect on the beauty of vulnerability, connection, and control. It’s an evening where music and movement intertwine, drawing the audience into a shared space of tension and release.
$30-$40 per person
