As a sort of "dessert before dinner" to the Ladyfest activities on the island this weekend, Sarah Shawdawson is presenting work by women on MV. THISTLE will play a work inspired by Emily Dickenson, and will also play in support of Sarah's music.

THISTLE will comprise a trio with w/ flutist Dominique Gagne, percussionist Roxan Jurkevick, and guest artist violist Nina Violet. Playing songs from "The Ice Maiden Comes" and "Mysterious Star: A Tribute to Poe." Don't miss this opportunity to see THISTLE as a trio...Dominique and Roxan are coming all the way from NYC!

THISTLE will be playing as a trio at the gorgeous historic Belmont Chapel in Newport, RI, which was recently restored. Domonique Gagne on flute, Roxan Jurkevich on percussion. There will be no amplification, only the sound we make with the gorgeous stone architecture--a real treat!

On October 8, 1849, Edgar Allan Poe was buried in a ceremony attended by a handful of people, with no eulogy. Come to the imagined afterparty at his cousin Neilson Poe’s (played by actor Jeffrey Lyon) Victorian parlor (a transformed Red Pavilion), where we will pay proper tribute to the author in an absinthe fueled dream state.

Harp and voice based duo THISTLE will play original chamber songs inspired by Poe's stories and poetry, as aerialists Duo Avium accompany the music with movement and costume. Also on offer: Poe tarot deck readings by Emily Hursh and a specialty absinthe cocktail at the bar. Victorian dress encouraged but not necessary.
